A few months ago,
{like 3.5 months ago}
I was sitting in the chapel before church began.
Jake had been gone all day at his bishopric meetings, my kids had destroyed our house, Christmas candy had been consumed in mass, and my patience was scarce.
I sat on the pew realizing that if I made it through the next hour
{and 5 minutes}
I would be able to send my "precious" children to primary.
{and I would go to the nursery... and eat snacks with Macy}
The executive secretary in our ward walked up to our pew and said, "Sister Willis, Bishop would like to meet with you in his office after sacrament meeting."
me- "Bishop? Am I in trouble?"
He laughed and said, "I would be scared."
I immediately went through a mental checklist of my actions/words for the past few weeks.
Who had I offended? What I had I done?
The thought of getting a new calling didn't cross my mind.
{For the past 5 years, whenever I get a new calling, Jake just asks/tells me while we are at home}
{no Bishops office involved}
I delivered my children to their classes, let nursery know I'd be a few minutes late, and went into meet with Bishop.
I walked into his office, there sat Jake, Bishop, and the other councilor.
{They looked so official...and so daunting}
I sat down.
{and smiled}
Immediately Bishop started discussing our ward, it's needs, and how sometimes answers to prayers come so strong.
{even when they make no sense...at all}
I waited for the bomb to drop.
I could feel it coming.
But it wasn't until he asked if I would be the Primary President, that I realized just how big of a bomb it was.
Primary President?
Not a councilor?
Are you sure?
I sat there staring at these 3 men.
{in suits!}
How would this happen?
How was I supposed to be at ward council on Sunday mornings... if Jake was there too?
How would I have time to do visits and scout meetings and...and...and?
And be a mom...and a wife?
All of this was said in my head.
I guess I was silent for a while.
Finally Bishop said, "how are you feeling?"
All I said was, "I would love to serve... I am scared to death."
I had memories of years ago when I had 2 little baby girls, neither of them yet nursery age and a husband serving in Young Mens.
I was called to be a sunbeam teacher.
I could not understand then why they would call me to that.
How would I wrangle 2 babies and 7 three year olds?
I can tell you now, 8 years later, that somehow it worked.
Sometimes I cried after church, sometimes it was complete mayhem, sometimes I complained.
But,
Jake taught his class, I taught mine, our girls were taken care of, and we all lived through it.
It was a miracle.
We were able to do and be more than we were before.
{Because we weren't doing it alone}
I left the Bishops office and realized that I could do this since Heavenly Father asked me to do it.
"Whom the Lord calls, He qualifies"
I immediately started praying about names for councilors and a secretary.
The Lord told me of 3 amazing women that will help carry the load.
{who also happen to be my friends}
Its only been a few weeks, but I can report that nobody has died.
A young women babysits sunday mornings while I go to a meeting.
And I have complete faith that it will all turn out to be a fantastic experience.
I have also realized that right now {and the next 2 years} will be the only time all of my children are in the same group each Sunday.
They will go to YM and YW.
{at different times}
I will never get to spend each Sunday with them all in church again.
I'm gonna consider this a tender mercy.
{'cuz I kinda like them}
Miracles happen.

That's great Jen! Our pres is moving in a few months and I'm the second councelor, and I totally keep telling her that since Damon is in the Bishopric at least I know I won't be the president haha! Guess that's not always the case! But it's fun to have all my kids in primary... Scout was in there for a little bit until he moved up, but it's fun to see them all in sharing time!
You go Jenni prez! You will do a fabulous job. And it is wonderful to have all your favorite smiles in the room at once.
I'm impressed that you call it a tender mercy. You really have a gift of being an optimist. I remember thinking that Adam was joking when he told me that they wanted me to be in the Primary presidency in the branch, 3 weeks after Lanie had been born and only a month after Adam had been put in the branch Pres. I get that it's not the same and that it was a branch, but it was a learning experience that whom the Lord calls, he does qualify. Timing isn't everything. You'll do great because you're animated and patient. It is good to hear every now and again that you have your moments too where you cry from being overwhelmed. It makes the rest of us look a little more normal:)
