Even though Jake and I had been casually dating on and off for over a year, our engagement came as a major shock to many people.
{not a bad shock}
Just the "weren't you just dating "what's his face" a few weeks ago?", kind of shock.
We knew we needed to be together, so it wasn't hard for those around us to see our excitement and join in.
Jake was inducted into my family with the traditional "hot tamale"
{he was a great sport}
I had only 5 wishes.
I wanted to wear a tiara,{ a big, sparkly tiara.}
I didn't want any wedding cake {it's not my favorite}
I wanted a wedding video.
I didn't want a serious engagement picture. {not me}
I wanted to wear flip flops with my dress.
Jake lovingly agreed to these and added 5 stipulations of his own.
He wanted wings and subs for a wedding lunch.
He wanted to wear his skate shoes on our wedding day.
He didn't want any shade of pink in our wedding colors.
He wanted to go to Cancun on our Honeymoon. {his mission}
He wouldn't dance at our wedding. {lame}
Because we set our wishes up front, everything else was worked out without much drama.
{except for the dancing, I tried my darndest over the next few months, but he ended up winning the stubborn match.}
Although we were spending alot of our time together remodeling our "soon to be" house, it seemed like the days were moving SO slowly until our big day.
We took a day trip to Cali. and took pictures for our announcement.
Between self-portraits, camera-timers, and strangers taking pictures, we got our pictures done.
{against my mothers wishes}
We picked out his suit, ties, and skate shoes {against his mothers wishes}.
I spent hours online looking for my "perfect" tiara and flip flops with just the right "platform".
We bought Jakes ring at Costco one night and ordered my ring from a friend of a friend.
Picking out flowers wasn't hard. Yellow roses. {happy and gorgeous.}
I took a California road trip with my friends to our spot in San Diego.
We picked out bridesmaid attire and enjoyed the last "single girls trip" to the fullest.
Because Jake and I didn't want to be seperated any more than possible, we would stay up talking and then fall asleep on the floor at my parents house.
{until my dad would wake him up and kick him out}
Three weeks before our wedding, My parents took the 4 kids left at home on a cruise to Alaska.
I was gone for 10 days.
{it seemed like 100}
I walked around the ship holding my dads cell, waiting for reception...in the middle of the ocean.
I got back to my honey and I decided to never be away from him for that long again.
The 2 weeks after that are a blur...
Wedding showers, Bridal pictures, last minute details, going to the temple for my endowments, getting food ready, and making crepes for hundreds were more than any one girl {or her mom} can handle.
I never got "the jitters" or any anxiety, I was feeling beyond blessed and I knew I was going to be marrying my handsome within a few days.
{and that was just what Jake, the Lord, and I all wanted}

Where's the engagement picture where you are sticking out your tongues??!! Come on, that's a classic! :) I made crepes on Easter and thought of your mother making hundreds for your reception. What a saint! You two are a crazy, cute couple. I wish I had danced at my reception too. Tsk tsk Jake. :)
Yes, your tiara was bombtastic! You set the bar high for the rest of us to top it with our own weddings:)
I love your guys' story. ;)
So I've wondered a few times how to get old school pictures that weren't digital on my computer.. Did you scan them, or how did you load those older ones on? That was probably the one of two of the funnest summers with you girls I can remember, just right after graduation and roads trips to Cali. So were you able to freeze the crepes in the mean time or did you just have to do them right before the reception?
I love the deal breakers. Sadly enough I have a time when Adam put on my pants accidently and they almost fit, but were too short. WHATEVER. I feel like there's so many guys who don't have to try hard to stay fit.
I love hearing this story because I lived too far away to ever know what was going on. Thanks for keeping the story coming.
Love it, love the outside Costco picture, love it all. You guys are cool.
