Last Sunday Jake came home from church and announced that the missionaries would be coming over for dinner later in the week.
{awesome}
I love when the missionaries come.
We get to eat yummy food and meet the elders.
{sometimes they are really entertaining}
Monday rolled around, we made carne asada tacos {heck yes} and waited for the elders.
When I opened the door there was a different missionary than the day before at church.
He introduced himself and said he was here on splits just for the day.
I noticed his brown skin and thick black hair.
I smiled and thought about Crew being on a mission and looking just like him one day.
As dinner began, Jake had Crew bless the food.
{he said it by himself...perfectly}
no pauses, mumbles, or whispers.
{perfectly}
Jake and I gave him high fives and told Crew how proud we were of him.
The missionaries just stared at us making a big deal over a 45 second prayer.
Jake explained, "Elders, he has only been in our home for 8 months. When he arrived, he didn't talk at all, so this is a big deal."
Both missionaries understood, joined the cheers and then the brownish skinned elder said, "how old is he?" We told him he had turned 3 a few months ago.
He responded, "I was adopted and I met my parents when I was just barely 3 too."
He continued to share the story of how he was able to find his forever family. He told us that he remembered the day he met them. He remember the food they ate and the toy they gave him. He knew they loved him from the beginning and they were his true family. He never looked back.
I could feel the spirit so strong as he was telling us this very personal story.
I couldn't help, but hope that Crew knows and remembers the love we have had for him since the first time we met him. That Crew knows that the Lord is the one who helped us all become a forever family. We were a family long before we got the phone call.
I have heard about so many youth lately that were adopted and are having real struggles with self worth and are making {sad} choices.
I worry when I hear these stories.
{this elder renewed my hope}
He has a strong testimony of the gospel and of the Lords love for him.
And that is what I hope for all of my children.
I know that he didn't just "happen" to come over.
I know it was a beautiful blessing.
{and I am truly grateful}

That is a tender mercy!!!! What a great experience. You guys are great parents and such a blessing you both were their and ready to bring Crew into your home. Yes we do hear of stories of those who struggle because perhaps they were adopted but one of my best friends was and she is the greatest ever. You guys will show him so much love and teach him the gospel that one day he will be that missionary knocking on doors!!! Thanks for sharing =)
ps I saw on stephs blog you guys will be sealed this summer, that is so exciting!!
Jen, Is my cous stalking you? Be honest. I can get her to stop. haha. Just kidding, I love that you two are blogging buds. That was a sweet story. I love having the elders over also. They have a habit of eating me out of house and home, but it's still the best night. And yes, they can be very entertaining. It's sad when adopted kids don't feel like they fit or struggle with accepting their life, but I don't think you'll have to worry about Crew. He knows he belongs. Your fam is amazing.
Ah that's a sweet story. I love Crew and I'm so happy he is part of your family!
What an amazing experience. I love how the Lord knows what we need and makes things happen in the most perfect ways.
So cool. You will be so glad you wrote this down. I love the way Heavenly Father shows us how important each individual is. He really can and does watch out for us and our needs. He loves you and He loves Crew.
Wow. See, I told you that I read your blog when I need to shed some tears. I am sure Heavenly Father was very aware that you needed that. How could we ever doubt that he knows us personally. I know he does.
